Following a number of incidents with mobile technology we have taken the decision to ban these from school completely and your son/daughter will bring a letter home regarding this. A copy of this letter is also available from. Click here to view letter
As you will be aware, there has been a large group of Travellers camped on the lower playing field since last Tuesday. The land is owned by Sandwell MBC, but used by Perryfields for PE lessons. I have worked very hard to clarify the situation regarding the removal of the Travellers by contacting both Sandwell MBC and the Police. Unfortunately, there is no given time for their removal, however, I am informed that they are waiting for the Kenilworth Horse Fair which takes place on 5th/6th July. Once this has finished, it is hoped that they will vacate the site. I would like to assure you that I am in regular contact with the Police and Sandwell about this issue.
In the meantime, although there have been no major incidents, I am starting to get reports that some Traveller children are intimidating our pupils who use the back driveway and the play area by Pitfields Close. As a result of this and in order to safeguard you son/daughter, there will be no access to the school via Pitfields Close (back drive) in the morning and afternoon, as the gate will be locked. Pupils who would usually use this access point will need to walk a short distance to Pitfields Road and use the front gate. I have also sent a message to pupils today to explain this and to encourage them not to use the play area on Pitfields Close both on their way to and from school until the Travellers have left. I am sure you will agree that this action is in the best interest of the pupils at Perryfields.
As soon as I have more information, I will let you know. In the mean time, should you child experience any problems; please report it to the police and the school.
If you would like to discuss this issue, please do not hesitate to contact me.
